To obtain the certificates, it is important not only to have achieved the level at which the candidate is applying (according to the CEFR: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, or C2) but also to be familiar with the exam structure and tasks to achieve the required score for each level. Therefore, enrolling in preparation courses for these exams is highly recommended.
The courses focus on exam guidelines, structure, practicing different tasks using exam models, reviewing the most complex grammatical structures, and clarifying any doubts.
Since these are preparation courses and not level attainment courses, it is advisable to take them in the weeks leading up to the exam. This allows the candidate to become familiar with the types of exercises they will encounter on exam day. It is important to note that these courses are not intended to help students reach a specific level but rather to understand the exam, practice it, and address any questions that may arise.
During the course, students will work with exam models. At home, they will complete the tasks for Written Expression and Reading Comprehension, which will then be reviewed and corrected. In class, the focus will be on Listening Comprehension and Oral Expression, as well as reviewing the grammatical points in the program necessary to pass an exam at the corresponding level.
The DELE preparation course consists of 20 teaching hours delivered over 5 weeks prior to the exam.
How?
The DELE Spanish diplomas are official certificates that certify the level of proficiency and command of the Spanish language, awarded by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education and Vocational Training. DELE diplomas cover all levels of the CEFR and have no expiration date. SIELE certificates, on the other hand, are only valid for two years. The Instituto Cervantes offers eight DELE exams.
In Spain, the diplomas are recognized by national, regional, and local institutions and organizations, such as:
Ministry of Justice of Spain: DELE A2 or higher is required to meet the Spanish language knowledge requirement in the application process for Spanish nationality for individuals from non-Spanish-speaking countries or territories.
Ministry of Health: DELE C1 or C2 is required for access to MIR and FIR positions.
Recognition of studies completed in another country: Individuals holding a DELE C2 diploma who join the Spanish educational system through the validation of studies completed in another country will be exempt from taking additional Spanish proficiency tests.
General State Administration and public organizations: DELE Spanish diplomas are considered sufficient accreditation of Spanish proficiency for any professional or academic activity in Spain that requires the corresponding level of competency.
ANNUAL ANOUNCEMENTS
Currently there are seven annual announeents for the diplomas, since in recent years those of February and September have been added due to the great demand for the DELE A2 Diploma, which is required to those who want to obtain the Spanish nationality.
The Instituto Cervantes has approved the following dates for the DELE exams:
