History of the academy

Our achievements and experience after more than a century are our best guarantee

The academy was founded in 1892 by Manuel Guiu Casanova (1869-1950), a graduate in Science (at that time, that included Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology) and the author of numerous Mathematics books that we exhibit in our library.

In 1939 he transferred all his functions to his son, Francisco Guiu Pérez (1910-1985), graduated as a Mechanical and Electrical Engineer. When he died, his son, Manuel Guiu Hidalgo (born 1944), who was graduated as an Industrial Engineer, continued the management of the academy and took it to its maximum expansion and magnitude.

Pioneers in Pathway Courses for the University Entry Exam

Currently, the great-grandson of Manuel Guiu Casanova, Jordi Guiu (1976), a graduate in International Trade from UPF, is carrying out the next generational change.

In 1983 we started the exclusive Pathway preparation Courses for the University Entry Exam (PAU) to gain access to university, which led us to become the pioneers in this field at a national level. In 1991, along with a wide experience at a national level, we started to offer courses for international High School students with equivalent studies.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Students who have studied in public or private schools and institutes must adhere to the opinion of our academic council. We will then study a personalized validation plan in accordance with the original study plans.

Our students must abide by the current legal regulations for the validation of official studies. Said regulations can be consulted on the website of the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science.

The final grade must be equal to or greater than 5. The result obtained in the test is worth 40%, the other 60% will be obtained from the overall High School mark.

Said order must be established at the time of pre-enrollment. It is important to know what order the degrees will be in since once this document is handed, it cannot be altered. It is important to know that we have the possibility to choose up to eight degrees.

Each university degree has a cut-off grade. To enter the university it will be necessary to equal or exceed the cut-off grade of the degree that is intended to be taken. You should take into account that the most demanded degrees have a higher grade.

Priority is given to the students who approved the call in the month of June (or in previous calls) and who took that option, even if they had lower grades. If there were places to be filled, they would be assigned based on the order of preference and the students' grades.

It is a prerequisite that the average between the High School and the PAU exam is at least 5. So, in this case, without the University Entrance Exam, you cannot enter University.

To access university we will always choose the option with a higher grade.

If you meet all these requirements and have correctly indicated the order of preference of the chosen degree, there is a period to claim access to the university in which you wish to study.

In this case, the university will consider that you renounce the obtained position and give it to another student.

Once a requested position has been granted, all the degrees established in the list of preferences are canceled. So it is necessary that before establishing an order of preferences to access University you are very sure of your choice.

First of all, you must be very punctual. It is very important to arrive at the exams with enough time to be placed and to be able to do a revision of the content if it is considered necessary.

That said, there may always be an unforeseen event. If we have any problem with public transport, for example, we must ask for proof to avoid problems when taking the exams. In this sense, an unjustified delay can result in losing the right to take the exams and, therefore, the automatic loss of the exam call.

As for the classrooms of the exams, you should know that during the previous days you will be able to consult the classrooms on the website of the Generalitat, in the case of the PAU; or on the UNED website, in the case of the University Entrance Exam for foreigners. In addition, each University will have the schedules and classrooms ready for the tests.

• Before carrying out the University Entrance Exam you must be sure about which studies you will take. You must take into account which subjects of the University Entrance Exam will weigh more in your subsequent university degree. It is important that you choose well and then choose an appropriate degree for you. In this sense, it is important that you are open to advice.

• Make the most of your stay at University. Learn to quickly know all the services that are offered. Most university students (according to surveys, more than 60%) do not get to know even 10% of the services that exist in the University after their first three years. Keep in mind that in most Spanish universities there are excellent information and assistance offices for students, university extension (cultural and sports services, for example), employment services, curricular design offices, programs abroad, volunteering, language courses, complementary training courses, etc.

• Invest the maximum time possible to review after classes and work with the material obtained. You should know that if you work every day you will get more positive results than if you accumulate the work until the end of the year. University will mean a major change in the methods you have followed so far. You'll have to work a lot more if you want to get good grades.

• The chair should be suitable for the position of the body but without being too comfortable, to prevent sleep.

• The lighting must be the correct one and it must be found opposite to the arm that we use to write. That is, if we are right-handed, it will be more appropriate for the light to come from the left. On the other hand, it is recommended that the light has a blue bulb and 60W. The rest of the room should have a dim light.

• It is also important to have all the materials we may need close when we are studying.

• With all this, it is also recommended to study inpidually to focus better.

How many hours should I study every day?

• In the range of 13 to 20 years, we recommend studying about 2 or 3 hours a day according to your own needs, always planning what you will work on. You have to organize the study material so that you do not accumulate tasks at the end of the course. On the other hand, what is established in a decisive way is that the recommended hours of sleep are from 6 to 8 each day, this is something very important to be able to develop all the activities properly.
