Five mistakes to avoid when studying online
Whether by choice or necessity, remote work and online learning are now at unprecedented levels compared to just a few months ago. The pandemic has changed our way of life, and in record time, we've replaced classrooms with a bedroom and a laptop or tablet. But not everyone knows how to take advantage of the benefits of remote learning and minimize its drawbacks. In fact, we often make mistakes that can lead directly to failure. Here are five you should start avoiding:
1. Not respecting a schedule
Since we don't have to travel, there's a temptation to jump out of bed and jump at the computer a few minutes before our first online class. But it's important to maintain a routine even when working or studying from home: getting up at the same time every day, showering, having breakfast, studying, eating lunch at roughly the same time each day, and so on. In short, following a routine helps us maintain good habits and organize our day.
2. Not planning
Along with your online class schedule, it's essential to plan your study time by setting specific and achievable goals. Write them down to track your progress. Organize your study time according to the subject and, above all, your difficulty in grasping concepts. And schedule short breaks for every hour of study.
3. Study anywhere
Your online class starts, and you settle into the living room sofa because you think you'll be more comfortable. Big mistake. Paying attention to an online class is even harder than following a face-to-face one. And if you're in the kitchen or living room, you're very likely to lose track of the lesson with any distraction. Your desk in your bedroom should be your quiet, focused workspace.
4. Do not separate leisure and training
Following an online class while checking WhatsApp or the latest TikTok videos doesn't work. Forget your phone during your study session, just as if you were physically in the classroom. Avoid distractions to make more progress while studying, optimize your time, and you'll have more time for leisure.
5. Forgetting about contact with classmates and teachers
Continuing with online classes doesn't mean losing touch with our classmates or teachers. Teachers remain available to students for any questions or concerns, and maintaining interaction is important. It's also crucial to stay in touch with our classmates, continue working as a team in many cases, and exchange experiences and questions. Maintaining these relationships with students and teachers is essential for staying motivated.
